Waves 4 Hope Project Launched

15 December 2014

In June 2015, a seven man crew with zero rowing experience will set sail in a Cornish Gig boat and row 50 miles non-stop for 12 hours across the English Channel from Nieuwport (Belgium) to Ramsgate in their attempt to raise £20,000 towards beating cancer.  They call themselves Waves 4 Hope!

Speaking of the challenge, Skipper Nick Stocker, who lost his Mum to cancer this year said:

“We’re an ordinary group of friends with tragic stories to tell – but no different from thousands of people across the country. Our difference is that we wanted to do something about it; something positive. Although blasé at first, the 9 months of training we now face is incredibly real and tough, but because we are ‘average Joes’ with mediocre levels of fitness, we’re hoping Waves4Hope will encourage others to do something extraordinary and raise funds for those who are facing their owns battle every single day.”

The Challenge

12 hours of the most gruelling continuous repetitive exercise – to row the English Channel at its widest point in an old fashioned traditional Cornish gig boat!  We have set a minimum target of raising £20,000 for three cancer charities one of which is Sail 4 Cancer.  Voted by the crew they provide end-to-end care for cancer patients.
