Torpoint Mosquito Sailing Club Have Fun Fundraising!

23 November 2006

Sail 4 Cancer is delighted to receive funds of over £760 raised by Torpoint Mosquito Sailing Club. The club, located at Torpoint near Plymouth, raised the money in memory of one of their former members.

When Liz Harris lost her battle with breast cancer back in 2002, the club decided to hold an annual race in memory of this very active and much missed member of the TMSC. The Liz Harris Cup is sponsored by her great friends Phil and Wendy Rose.

Yachts and dinghies race together in this fun event, but club member Joe Snawdon and his crew add to the entertainment each year by performing a sponsored task, whilst racing their dinghy.

These have included such feats as extreme ironing, hair dyeing and serving cocktails! The money raised each year is donated to a cancer charity and this year it was felt that Sail 4 Cancer would be a very apt cause to support.

On hand to receive the cheque on the charity’s behalf was Hilary Preston, a staunch supporter of Sail 4 Cancer. Hilary, who is all set to complete her South West Coastal Path walk in aid of the charity, found a great welcome from this exceptionally friendly club for her and her husband Mike.

We at Sail 4 Cancer are extremely grateful to be chosen to receive this very generous donation from the Torpoint Mosquito Sailing Club.  Thank you!
