Round The Island Race For Chris Byne

27 May 2016

On Saturday 2nd July Chris Byne is challenging himself to take part in this iconic race – sailing’s answer to the London Marathon, as 1600 boats, crewed by some of the biggest names in sailing as well as keen amateur sailors, skim past The Needles, round St Catherine’s Point and Bembridge Ledge and back into the Solent. He will also be raising funds for Sail 4 Cancer at the same time, helping offer much needed respite to UK families living with cancer.

Sail 4 Cancer – About Us

Set up by a team of sailing enthusiasts in 2001, all of whom have lost a family member or a friend to cancer, Sail 4 Cancer is primarily a provider of water based days out and short-breaks for British families affected by cancer. We also make grants to UK based care institutions and support research into the positive effects of sport (e.g. sailing) and how it can help with cancer prevention and recovery.

Chris says: “I lost my Dad to cancer in 2013. Whilst he was not a sailor, he was an inspiration. Shortly before he passed away we went on a road trip in the US and during one of the many in depth conversations we discussed our bucket lists. The Fastnet had been on my list for many years, however life was always too busy and other things just simply got in the way…. Anyway, cutting to the point, life is wonderful when we are fit and have our health and last year I was finally able to tick the Fastnet off my list, thanks Dad! And now to the Round the Island Race…

“Sailing is a passion of mine, in fact, simply being on the water makes me happy. I hope to raise as much money as possible to help the sufferers and carers whose lives have been shattered by this horrible disease, get a brief and much deserved spell of happiness that sailing brings. Please donate generously.
“Thank you for your support!” Chris
