Remembering Phil Hobbs

04 October 2010

On August Bank Holiday Monday, Salford Watersports Centre held ‘The Quays Festival’ to celebrate the life of a much missed friend and colleague, Phil Hobbs, who sadly lost his battle with cancer in September 2009 aged just 25.

Over 500 people attended the event, with teams taking part in a bell-boat regatta and over 120 people took advantage of free taster sessions in sailing, kayaking, canoeing and windsurfing. Whilst for those who didn’t want to get wet there was a surf simulator, space ball, walk on water balls, skate park, face painting, bouncy castle, power boat and pleasure boat trips.

One of Phil’s nominated charities is Sail 4 Cancer and the watersports centre organised a raffle to raise funds for Sail 4 Cancer. In addition to watersports instruction vouchers and gym membership donated by Salford Watersports, there were prizes donated by Holiday Inn, Ramada Inn, Pizza Express, O2, Manchester United Foundation, Chiquitos, the Lowry Shopping Centre and Millies Cookies.

The raffle raised an amazing £320 and Sail 4 Cancer would like to thank Salford Watersports Centre and all the companies listed above for their support and generosity.
