The Bugle’s Gutter Boat Regatta!

16 July 2007

The first Gutter Boat Regatta is to be held in The Bugle pub in Hamble.  Although this mighty regatta is only in its first year of running, it is set to become a classic on the annual sailing calendar!  The Bugle was packed out with sailors who came from near and far to show off their creations and maybe even take home a prize or two.

All the entrants (boats) were made by hand on the night of the regatta.  Each contestant received a kit on the night with which to make their boat.  The objective was to blow your boat along the gutter (filled with water) and be the fastest boat to reach the end of the course!

Ten teams battled it out all night even through the torrential rain but that did not drown their spirits.  The teams were judged on the best design, sheer speed and prowess when afloat!

The evening raised a tremendous £300 for Sail 4 Cancer!  Many thanks to everyone who was involved.  Let’s hope next year will see even more teams enter!
