Cowes Superyacht Cup Official Charity

01 March 2012

Sail 4 Cancer is delighted to announce that it has been selected as Official Charity for the Superyacht Cup regatta at Cowes from 22-25 July this year.

Organised in association with the Royal Yacht Squadron, the prestigious Superyacht Cup Cowes, will take place over three days and include sailing in the waters of the Solent and around the Isle of Wight. The Superyacht Cup Palma edition takes place a month before in Palma, Mallorca from 20-23 June.

Lizette van Niekerk, Fundraising Manager for Sail 4 Cancer said:

“We are honoured to be selected as the official charity for this very prestigious event which is coming to the UK for the first time. The event will enable us to raise awareness and much-need funds for cancer-affected families in the UK. Every year our waiting list grows longer and for some of the people who apply to us for respite breaks time is running out. This partnership will allow us to help more families to escape from living with cancer for a short while this year. We are simply thrilled and know that sailors and non-sailors alike will enjoy watching these magnificent yachts compete.”

James Pleasance, Event Director for the Superyacht Cup commented:

“Each year at our Palma edition of the Superyacht Cup, participants of the regatta have generously helped raise money for a local charity – the Joves Navegants Foundation which promotes a Youth Sail Training Scheme for underprivileged children in the Balearic Islands. For our first ever UK edition of the regatta, we are very pleased to be working alongside Sail 4 Cancer in a similar way to help raise funds for the valuable support they provide to families and individuals affected by cancer”.
