EVENT 23rd Aug 2017

Solent Sailing Day: 23 Aug 2017

Sail 4 Cancer - About Us

Set up by a team of sailing enthusiasts, all of whom have lost a family member or a friend to cancer, Sail 4 Cancer is primarily a provider of water based days out and short-breaks for families affected by cancer.

We also make grants to UK based care institutions and support research into the positive effects of sport (e.g. sailing) and how it can help with cancer prevention and recovery.

Solent Sailing Days

These trips are an amazing respite opportunity. A day spent with family and friends, focussing on something new and different, offers a real break from hospital and treatment.

Guests are encouraged to have a go at sailing the boat and often really surprise themselves at what they can achieve. The confidence boost they experience spills over into other areas of their life and the glow remains for long after they are back on shore.

Solent Days

Who can attend?

Solent Days

All participants must obtain permission to attend by their GP or healthcare professional. Participants are encouraged to bring along family or a friend to share in their day out and most trips are suitable for anyone of 14 years or older. No sailing experience is necessary!

Solent Days

There are no medical staff on board the boats so we cannot take anyone who needs constant medical supervision. Altough we can often accommodate people with movement restriction and other disabilities (with advance notice), guests should have a basic level of agility in order to move around the boat. However we can as long as we know in advance.

  • Lunch is included
  • Travel to and from the marina (Portsmouth or Hamble) is not included

The Feedback!

"It’s been an intense 8 months since diagnosis and every minute has been consumed with cancer in one way or another. A day’s sailing soon puts stop to that..! Being out on the open water makes your soul soar and there seems no option but to let go of everyday strains and stresses. I came away feeling refreshed and ready for the challenge of restored health and living fully again." Caron
