Sails Of Hope Campaign Launched

Sails Of Hope - Campaign Launch!

Sail 4 Cancer - About Us

Set up by a team of sailing enthusiasts, all of whom have lost a family member or a friend to cancer, Sail 4 Cancer is primarily a provider of days out and short-breaks for British families affected by cancer.

We also make grants to UK based care institutions and support research into the positive effects of sport (e.g. sailing) and how it can help with cancer prevention and recovery.

Sail 4 Cancer is pleased to be able to support Tracy Edwards MBE’s 'The Maiden Factor' with the donation of a 242 square metre spinnaker as part of the ‘Hands around the world’ project.

The spinnaker was made for the Clipper Round The World Race and donated to Sail 4 Cancer last year.

To raise much need funds for the charity, Sail 4 Cancer is currently making donated sails into a range of luggage made from sail cloth! Find out more here >

Tracy Edwards sailed into the history books in 1989/90 as the skipper of the first all female crew to take part in the Whitbread Round the World Race. After an extensive restoration, Tracy’s iconic boat, Maiden, will once again set sail around the world, but this time on a new mission: to raise awareness and funds so that all girls around the World have the right to an education.

The ‘Hands around the world' project will involve visits to many schools where young people will be invited to put their hand prints on the spinnaker to form a rainbow spiral. By the time the voyage is completed it will be awash with hand prints and many stories of empowerment and hope.

Commenting ont he donation by Sail 4 Cancer, Greg Bint from the Maiden Factor said "We are so grateful to Graham and Sail 4 Cancer for making our Hands around the World project possible. Over one hundred children from schools around the UK have already added their hand prints and we look forward to the rainbow growing ever larger as Maiden continues her inspiring journey.”

Graham Precey, Chair of the 4 Cancer Group of charities said “It’s an amazing thing that Tracy Edwards and the team are doing with Maiden’s new mission. We’d like to thank them for taking the Sail 4 Cancer message of hope for people going through cancer with them too. Bon Vent!"
