Sail 4 Cancer - About Us

Set up by a team of sailing enthusiasts in 2001, all of whom have lost a family member or a friend to cancer, Sail 4 Cancer is primarily a provider of water based days out and short-breaks for British families affected by cancer.

We also make grants to UK based care institutions and support research into the positive effects of sport (e.g. sailing) and how it can help with cancer prevention and recovery.

Peter Seymour is part of a crew of nine sailors participating in one of the most gruelling offshore sailing races in the world - the Rolex Fastnet.

Panda Nova II will be one of 300 yachts sailing in this year's race which starts on Sunday the 11th of August.

The 608 mile course starts at Cowes on the Isle of Wight and heads towards the Fastnet Rock off Southwest Ireland. The fleet then head back to the finish line in Plymouth.

Message from Peter

Panda Nova II
"I joined the fairly well established crew of Panda Nova II at the start of the year and since then have grown to know them well and have become part of the off-shore racing team.

"So far, our Rolex Fastnet campaign has seen us complete four qualifying races, numerous training weekends, several boat prep weekends, various sea survival courses and several rescue simulations - including a helicopter rescue! During the course of that time, living in each other's' pockets, we've grown to know each other (and each other's individual idiosyncrasies (who snores badly, who has smelly feet, who suffers from sea-sickness etc) quite well.

Panda Nova rounds the Rock

"This will be my first time racing in the Fastnet and, in doing so, I am hoping to raise funds for Sail 4 Cancer, a charity only introduced to me recently but which clearly provides invaluable benefit for cancer patients/their families as well as raising funds for treatment, care and research.

"Thank you for your support."
