Jamie Gooch is about to embark on a family holiday with a real difference - he and his family are to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, raising funds for charity whilst they do it. Jamie's chosen charity is Sail 4 Cancer.

He explains,"I have always had a passion for sailing having started learning at the age of 6 on the Isle of Skye. When I turned 18 I started teaching sailing as a career and haven't stopped for the last 15 years. Because of this I have decided to raise money for Sail 4 Cancer. I first heard of Sail 4 Cancer when I started working at Salford Watersports Centre; it was their chosen charity in Memory of Phil Hobbs a former member of staff who sadly passed away on 19th September 2009 after a battle with cancer."
"The idea for Kilimanjaro climb was started by my mother and her partner who decided that they would like to challenge themselves. It has since been turned in to a family holiday with us all raising money for our chosen charities."
Jamie's climb is to take place on 6th - 18th August 2011. "The route we are taking will see us climbing up over 8 days climbing on average 1000m a day. At the end of each day we will be dropping down again to help with the effects of altitude. The summit day should hopefully see us reaching the summit at 5894m in time for the sunrise."
