Graham Douglas to take part in the Rolex Fastnet Race 2013

Sail 4 Cancer - About Us

Set up by a team of sailing enthusiasts in 2001, all of whom have lost a family member or a friend to cancer, Sail 4 Cancer is primarily a provider of days out and short-breaks for British families affected by cancer.

We also make grants to UK based care institutions and fund research into the positive effects of sport (e.g. sailing) and how it can help with cancer prevention and recovery.

The Fastnet Race 2013

Starting on Sunday August 11th 2013, around 300 boats will race over 600 miles non-stop from Cowes along the south coast of Britain, past Land's End, across the Irish Sea and around the Fastnet Rock lighthouse just off the southern coast of Ireland.

They return passing the Isles of Scilly and the Bishop's Rock lighthouse finishing in Plymouth. For most boats this will take between 4 and 5 days pitting the crews in a constant physical and mental challenge against each other.

Commenting on his challenge, Graham said:

Sailing_Logic_Logo_White_Background12

"This year I have decided to participate in the Fastnet Race as part of the Sailing Logic team. I am paying the full cost of doing this race myself, which will be a personal challenge and a definite step up from my comfort zone of leisure sailing and short-handed racing.

"The deal here is not to partially fund my own choice of challenge, but rather that by highlighting the link between a sailing race and the aims of Sail 4 Cancer, friends and colleagues might consider donating some money to a good cause. In short all the money raised will go directly to the charity without any contribution to my sailing aspirations.

"The incentive to donate is further enhanced by a very generous offer by my employer. They will match the amount of sponsorship money raised up to a limit of £1,000. It seems rude not to take them up on their offer to double your donation.

Many thanks

Graham Douglas
