Set up by a team of sailing enthusiasts in 2001, all of whom have lost a family member or a friend to cancer, Sail 4 Cancer is primarily a provider of water based days out and short-breaks for British families affected by cancer.
We also make grants to UK based care institutions and support research into the positive effects of sport (e.g. sailing) and how it can help with cancer prevention and recovery.
“This year I am taking part in the Rolex Fastnet race. For those that have never heard of this it is a famous biennial offshore yacht race organised by the Royal Ocean Racing Club of the United Kingdom. Generally considered one of the classic offshore races the Fastnet is a 600 nautical mile challenge for all who take part. Commencing on the startline of the Royal Yacht Squadron off Cowes on the Isle of Wight the fleet go along the South coast, across the Irish Sea round the famous Fastnet Rock off the coast of Ireland then back down to Plymouth.
The campaign is a personal challenge and I am taking it on to try and satisfy my interest in offshore racing and the huge physical and mental challenges it brings. However along the way I am trying to fundraise as much as possible for the charity Sail for Cancer. There is no question that all of us either have already or will know someone who has battled with this terrible disease and the charity do some amazing work to bring some pleasure to those who suffer. Please be generous and thank you so much in advance for your donations! ”
