Chris has completed the challenge in 20 hours and 1 minute. FANTASTIC, WELL DONE CHRIS!!
Apparently inspired by others on the Sail 4 Cancer website, Chris Thomas has chosen the Three Peaks Challenge as his way to raise funds for the charity. We decided to be nosey and asked him a lot of questions about it...
What is the Three Peaks Challenge?
In a nut-shell, we have 24 hours to traverse between and then scale the highest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales; namely, Scafell Pike, Ben Nevis and Snowdon. The distance covered walking is approximately equivalent to that of a marathon - although pretty obviously half this distance is done 'up-hill'!
What do you know about walking up mountains?
Nothing!?! But I know nothing about sailing, riding a bike off-road across Wales or arranging parties by the sea either - all brilliant achievements completed on behalf of Sail 4 Cancer by others more gifted than me. However, I wanted to make a contribution and if I'm honest I thought that learning to walk up a hill would be easier than learning to sail across the Atlantic. Although we have picked some pretty big hills!
Why are you doing this?
Unfortunately, and like so many others in the world, I have close experience of the affects that cancer has on a family, with my mother being taken from us by stomach cancer and my partner's father by throat cancer. It's an appalling disease and while I truly believe that one day we will beat it, until that day, I think it's important that charities out there raising funds for the support of those impacted by cancer benefit from our continued support. After all, more money raised for charities like Sail 4 Cancer means more people getting help, right!?! So it would be wrong for me not to do my bit...
So why Sail 4 Cancer?
Sail 4 Cancer came to my attention via a mutual friend of ours and a past trustee of the charity Richard Groome. We worked together for a couple of years and as a result, through him, I became aware of who Sail 4 Cancer are and what you do. I regularly visit the web site, receive the newsletter and enjoy reading about people's fund raising exploits and the adventures of those the charity has helped. What I particularly like about Sail 4 Cancer is the way in which you recognise that cancer attacks the whole family unit in one way or another and I love the thought of helping you to help others ... even if it's in such a small way.

I'm looking forward to it and I hope people recognise that, through sponsorship, they have the opportunity to help a genuinely worthwhile cause through a refreshingly different charity.
Well that all sounds pretty convincing - and you're certainly training hard in the photo. GOOD LUCK from the Sail 4 Cancer team!
Please sponsor Chris and offer him your words of encouragement using the form below.
