Sail 4 Cancer - About Us

Set up by a team of sailing enthusiasts in 2001, all of whom have lost a family member or a friend to cancer, Sail 4 Cancer is primarily a provider of water based days out and short-breaks for British families affected by cancer.

We also make grants to UK based care institutions and support research into the positive effects of sport (e.g. sailing) and how it can help with cancer prevention and recovery.

The Three Peaks Yacht Race is one of the oldest and most remarkable multi-sport endurance races in the world. It is a unique event combining sailing, running and cycling and takes competitors through some of the most spectacular scenery in the United Kingdom as they sail around the coast of Britain. Not only are teams required to have excellent sailing and navigational abilities, but two of the crew also run Snowdon, Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis, the highest peaks in Wales, England and Scotland - the equivalent of 3 marathons, in only a few days. The boats are not allowed to motor (except within the confines of the harbour for safety reasons) but rowing is allowed in moments of calm!

Mike is sailing on board Moby J for this year's race, which starts on 11th June.

Mike says:

“"Sailing has given me so much pleasure over the years, and although more used to sailing in the Caribbean over the past few years, a challenging opportunity has arisen for me to move from being part of MOBY J’s “shore support team” to one of the sailing crew.
“I am part of a great team, headed by Martin Pound, who joined the Britannia Royal Naval College with me 50+ years ago, with thankfully some younger and fitter runners!
“Please help MOBY J raise funds for Sail 4 Cancer and to provide more of their excellent sailing and other water-based respite opportunities.”

Thank you
